Define a game you'd be playing. If your wanting to play Bloons or CS Source or GTA IV on full settings. General is too general.

The Sony Vaios are amazing, i'm on a borrowed school laptop atm (broken leg, schoolwork at home etc) and it's got core 2 duo and celeron, 15inch widescreen and intel gma x3100 graphics, it's called stonecomputers who make it and it's fantastic, it runs like a beaut and it's budget I think, but yeah, a Vaio or check out new toshibas, yummy.

    Hope it helps

    I have a HP Envy 14 which is £804 on a student discount. It has a 14.5" Screen, i5 460M, ATi 5650 and 4GB RAM. It's a pretty nice laptop.

You can get the Pavilion dv7 which has a 17.3" screen and all of the above specs for ~£700 on a discount.

I don't know what you do with yours but in our tough school environment our Dell laptops have lasted many, many years of abuse, the biggest problem we've had are batteries dying (which is expected after a couple of years of non-stop use)
