Default Big Online Java Project. +Rep.

Well, for a long time now, i've had the idea of making a online game, Abit like Counter Strike but alot better, better Graphics and what not.
I've got the main idea on what i want to base the game on, i've had this idea for quite some time now, and i was wondering is it worth going ahead and trying to make it?
I'm only 15, and learning Java (a tbasic stages), hopefully i'll be taking Game Programming in 6 Form, and University.
I do realise it will be alot of work, but is this something you think i can take on, on my own?
I'm also pretty good at Graphics, so that's a slight advantage.

    A few Questions i had

    - Is this a un-realistic goal?
    - Do you think i should go ahead with it?
    - Will i need more help, or if i really i tried, i could do this solo?
    - What other aspects will i need, to complete this game? (3d Modelling Etc.)
    - What other information could you recommend to me?

    Thanks to all replys! (+rep)

    Regards
    ~ Huggies.

    - Is this a un-realistic goal? At this stage, yes.
    - Do you think i should go ahead with it? Mmmm probably not.
    - Will i need more help, or if i really i tried, i could do this solo? Doubt it, you could get some done but the time required would be too much on your own
    - What other aspects will i need, to complete this game? (3d Modelling Etc.) Yeah pretty much stuff like that, you would need a team.

All in all, It wouldn't be an easy thing doing it on your own, and your going to need a lot more knowledge than just the basics.

    1) Its not unrealistic at all, well in some aspects.
    2) Yeah why not, dont spend all your time on it though, keep it as a hobby, bare in mind though, it will take a while.
    3) Depends on what you want to do with it. If you wish to market it and turn it into a proper, full functional, money making game, then yes you'll definitely need help with the marketing, publishing and all of those aspects since i imagine you have little experience. Not to say you couldnt do it, but it'd be a lot to handle on your own.
    4) Not really sure if im honest.
    5) Im sure there's courses on games development, if need be go and work for a games development company when you're older for a bit, get the knowledge required and either do it in your spare time whilst you work there or go indie and hopefully turn it into something big (like notch did with minecraft).

Again, those aren't all the answers but yeah. Try not to set it as a career but more as a hobby
But as infectious said, it'd be near impossible at your age with your knowledge

Yeah dont worry, when you study it as a subject in sixth form/college, you'll have a lot more knowledge of Java. I would just set out to make something small to start off with, something thats managable alone.

However if you're doing computing in college (since, well atleast in the ones near me, there wasnt any games design), then you'll most likely not be learning java. You'll probably be ending up learning visual basic or c#, java is usually learnt in university (computer science). Have fun anywho

as far as i know, java isnt exactly a language which can outperform counterstrike in graphics nor gameplay

What language is then? (if you know by any chance)

@Nemo, do you think its worth carrying on with Game Programming, into 6form and Uni? Just wondering
Like will there be job options, that pay well?

Well im only in sixth form so my knowledge is limited also, but its really upto you. Im going down the route of doing maths/x/x/computing at sixth form (x being a random other subject, in my case further maths + physics which will help later, but not required), and then doing computer science at uni.

From what i know, having a degree is pretty much a requirement for any job in the development industry, be that games or program in general. So if i were you, i'd probably go down the same route as me and make sure you do computer science at uni (and see what the requirements for the uni are for whereever you wanna go in terms of college subjects), which will then leave you much more job options in programming than if you just limited yourself to game programming (which some places may not accept, or you decide that you dont want to stick to just games).

But then its down to you ;p I'd get a second opinion
