I've heard that this is recommended when doing lessons. Just driving with your parents and stuff. Where would be the best place to get insurance on my dads car for me? Or would I be better just buying my own car and getting insured on that?

You'd prob be better getting your own car and insurance, that why you can build your own no claims bonus.

Depends on the costs and hassle really, getting your own car is a good idea as when you pass you're sorted right away. You can of course as you say go out in it with parents beforehand to get used to it as different cars do handle entirely differently, so it is recommended but not always necessary and depends partly on what your parents are going to be like. I only went out in my car a handful of times with my mum before passing and while she's a good driver, she wasn't great to go practising with because she was just terrified the entire time

Note that if you do get a car and insure it before you pass, you'll have to redo the insurance once you're a proper driver and they'll hike the price up, because apparently you're more of a risk once you've passed :S ridiculous but that's the way it goes

So I buy my own car and insure it under provisional insurance. Then once I pass, regular insurance. Is that right?
