For films, yes. I tend to take a look at a review and its rating before purchasing/renting a movie however it doesn't always affect my decision.

I used to read film reviews and while I still do read them, I don't base my choices around their reviews cos they generally have to be a bit more picky than me who just wants to escape real life for 2 hours or so

Ill look at the stars rating, but never read the entire review. I feel they make it too analytical and would then make me think about those things whilst im watching the movie and it could potentially spoil a movie i would otherwise enjoy

Monday is the main release day every week for films and TV shows on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK, and each week I've usually been sent 90 percent of them to review ahead of time.

This is a good thread to tell you all to read Screenjabber.

I often, use friends for opinions on films / tv shows to see if its any good, as there a bit more fair sided, as they don't earn a living from reviewing them.
