VM replacing the modem...

Right, our trusty old NTL:Home 120 modem died sometime last week while we were away. Rang VM and they're coming Tuesday to install a new modem. Currently, I have a mate across the road who's let me use his network temporarily for some coursework and troubleshooting.

Has anyone else recently had a VM modem replaced, and if so what did they receive?

Looking at it, I could end up with one of the Virgin Media Hubs, which integrates a Netgear wireless N router. Don't want to use that router, I did see a link to a guide that means I can use our existing router on here, but I lost the link.

Can I continue to use our existing router (a Belkin G+ MIMO (not all our PCs support N), connected via Ethernet? Don't want to spend all day configuring 4 laptops, 4 desktops, 2 phones, a wireless printer and numerous shared folders all over again.
If it's an option, I would like to use the Hub for devices that support N, and the Belkin for G (basically, my rig and my dad's Amilo)

A half-related quick question.
My dad has a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo D1845. This has a Broadcom G card built in. Can this be upgraded to any old card that supports N? The access to the mini PCI slot is easy, 11 screws remove the entire bottom of the laptop.

Wireless N is backwards compatible with Wireless G. It really shouldn't take very long to setup, you just have to give the new router the same SSID and security/security key as the old one and they'll automatically reconnect.

From what I'd read, you had to have a set SSID that was printed on the Hub box, similar to what happens with the BT Home Hubs... However, if I can change it I will. and then I will bagsy the old router and attempt to run DD-WRT.

my other concern is that the old router uses WEP. Why, I don't know. I intend to change it over to WPA2, but assume that this will make a difference with the passphrase. Would I be able to use the existing one if I went to WPA2?

You can change the SSID on the Virgin Media Super Hub, I've done it and haven't seen any issues with it. In regards of the WPA2 business, I believe you can.
