    Default Sky Broadband

We are getting varied speeds from 6mb/s to 0.2 mb/s. But the average is 2.5 mb/s a day.
I live about 0.7 miles from the exchange. Bandwith shouldn't be affecting it at all ?
Should be getting up to 20 mb/s :/
    Cause ?

In their eyes you are getting "UP TO 20 MB/S" and 6MB/s is in their acceptable scale. So it's not really a problem to them obviously to you it is, it's possibly down to line quality. If you're bothered about speeds possibly try another provider or see if you're in a cabled area?

I'm with Sky as well and I get about 2.5mb/s when I should be getting up to 20, like you. As Jongo said though, it's only up to.

    Not online very often

If you live far away from the exchange then you will not get anywhere near the 20MB they advertise, they do say "Up to" for that very reason. That's what you have to live with when you have an ADSL connection really.

If you do want greater than 6MB or whatever you are getting now, then you could check to see if you are in a cabled area and then move over to Virgin Media as that way you would get a better guaranteed speed OR see when BT Infinity is coming to your area (if it is) and then you can go with them on that.

    Problems:
    - You're 0.7 miles from the exchange
    - You're using copper lines

You can't "fix" this "problem" without moving to cable or waiting for someone to install Fibre in your area.

BUT. Since i love on a new part of a new estate, they won't come put fibre only a few yards from where it ends D: !
