Arguments and Thread Closures

Why are threads closed when an argument happens? Just because a few people who think they're bigger than they really decide to argue doesn't mean it should be ruined for everyone else who uses that thread.

The main example of this is the WWE thread, Misawa and flipflop!! were claiming to be some professional wrestlers or script writers rolleyes and it turned into one big argument between them two, if anything you should remove their posts and tell them to cool down not close it.

Could we change this so only the people who are arguing get the punishment?

This was brought up before i believe and i totaly agree. A thread shouldn't be closed for everybody just because one or two people argue. At most, just don't let the culprits postin the thread.

The ones causing the problems should be punished, Is there not a vbulletin feature where you can ban a certain user from posting in a thread for a certain period of time? That might be a good solution.

The first one was temporarily closed because I could not take any action against one of the arguing participants and it would got out of hand if I hadn't. I have now re-opened it.

Same with this thread too, people started turning it into a debate about history and got it closed.

This was just a fest of arguing and rule breaking that was getting unacceptable and out of hand so I closed it to prevent any further arguments or rule breaking. There is nothing stopping you creating a new thread about the history of Japan if you want to.

It was started due to a certain staff member either trolling, or having a serious lack of education.

Although it is annoying that threads get closed, they do tend up to be every single person in the thread arguing - as people naturally take sides.

Arguing is allowed to an extent, normally moderators close threads when they get personal, or anticipate that they're going to become personal.

There's cases where you can't see the entire picture too, like there's a feud between two people elsewhere and they slowly begin to return comments at eachother in a thread that if you didn't know the two members had a history with eachother you wouldn't know their remarks were going to lead into an argument or were an attempt at provoking the other party into arguing. Sometimes since comments and posts are are often removed for rudeness in an argument the thread in general doesn't seem as harsh in the aftermath as it actually was as it transpired.

I agree, if an arguments distracts from the actual topic then the argumentative posts should be removed. A thread should never be closed because of an argument unless it was created for that reason.

Aw, the Japan topic got closed. Seems flipflop likes going around and annoying people. The thread should be re-opened and the rude posts removed, as some people were actually having a valid (on topic) debate, or were trying to, at least. Plus it's a genuine topic with genuine replies, seems unfair that everything is ruined and it gets closed thanks to some fool out to cause trouble.
