It's just basically the first week of your academic year.. Not much work is expecting, it just allows you to settle into your new uni/college and get to know everyone.

Freshers week ( fortnight
) is great! Its purpose is to give new students a chance to
meet their housemates if you are staying on campus, make new friends and sort out things such as opening student bank accounts, finding your way around, discount bus passes, student union etc etc. There are loads of social events such as discos, live bands, parties and finally the Freshers Week Ball. Drinking is optional but I guarantee if you do you will swear you will never drink again by the end of it.
