Sorry if this is in wrong section :/.

Basically, I live in the NW of England with my mum dad and brothers, while the rest of my family live in midlands.

Im leaving school in a few months with my last exam being on June 14th. Originally, when I finished my exams we were moving up to the midlands, so I didnt bother applying for college here, but for reasons for my brothers, we are now staying here. When we moved up, I was going to work with my uncle doing drainage and plumbing for 5 years, get experience and continue along on my own using the experience and knowledge I had, as he says companys want experience alot more than qualifications. Anyway, due to us no moving, I can no longer work with him or go to college where I am atm. He really wanted me to go work with him, as I really enjoy doing the type of job he does.

Anyway, every so often I stop with my aunt/uncle for a week or so and I go do some jobs with him. One night we were sitting there, and he started saying how he is gutted we are not moving up as he was looking forward training me, started on about what he would get me doing, how long he would train me for etc etc.

I have wanted to move upto the midlands for a while, but awhile ago I wanted to move up more because of my little cousin, which is the closest thing I have a sister as I have 5 brothers. I still want to move up alot, to be closer to my family, and to be able to get a good job after training with my uncle.

Iv been thinking about it, and I know my auntie and uncle wouldnt let me move in with them, as they have 3 kids in a bedroom house, however I was thinking of asking my Grandma, who lives on her own in a 2 bedroomed house, if it would be possible to move in with her. But then there is a complication: I would have no income. My uncle might be able to pay me every so often, but he is contracted to a company, self employed with his own small company, which means he has no idea how much he gets payed every week. Im sure there isnt anything I could claim while training with him, and I know my mum and dad wouldnt be able to give me anything as they have 5 other boys to look after. I know my gran wouldnt want any board etc, but I would love to be able to just give it to her because I wouldnt expect her to have me for nothing.

I guess moving to the midlands, seeing my family and working with my uncle is what I want to do, I guess its my dream. But theres that compication in the way.

Any ideas on what to do? I really dont want to stay where I am at the moment?

So you were going to 'train' for 5 years without being payed? It's true companies want experience, but thats selling yourself short. Why don't you ask around the plumbing and drainage companies in your area and see if you can either do an apprenticeship, thereby getting a qualification as well or going into a full time job.

Presuming you're 14+, that's legally when you can start working. Find a job up in the midlands as the rest is purely up to yourself.

Move if its what youre passionate about. To be honest life is unpredictable, you never know where you'll end up in the next 12 months. I think you should go for it, look at trying to find a part-time job just to give something back to your gran, work with your uncle to train you up until you're able to get into the job as a professional when you're 18. RockyHorror also made a good idea, use your uncle whos in the plumbing industry to see if he can get you some sort of job working at a plumbing company he's networked with before.

It sounds like you've started early already on deciding what to do and good on you.

Yeah basically what Narnat, said. It's your life and we can't make those decisions for you. If you want to go into that career then by all means move in with your gran, work with your uncle and then try and get a part-time job. If it's not what you want to do, then try and apply for a college or an apprenticeship near you...
