I just read a news article that really shocked me if its true.
Apparently a US rent-to-lease store, Aaron's, Inc., is being accused of using software to turn their laptops built in webcam's into survilance devices.
According to the article a couple took the laptop back to the store and somehow, most likely accidentally, the worker pulled up a picture of the husband.
It's something I've been actually a bit wary of I'll admit. I don't have a laptop but when I have used my webcam I've always taken it out when not in use, especially after hearing a possible rumour that they where hackable - heard about someone who apparently ended up receiving messages in notepad claiming they where being watched.
If I did get a laptop I'd probably cover the webcam if I wasn't using it, but still the thought of someone in a store watching me is freaky

The school example is pretty dodgy, it doesn't make sense why they are watching their students in such a way and how they are getting away with it - the US are meant to have stricter privacy laws than us :S
