    Default The Scheme

    An observed documentary series following the dramatic and often emotional highs and lows of daily life for six different families all living in one large housing scheme in Kilmarnock. From parents battling to keep their kids on the straight and narrow to people fighting for community projects, the series offers a snapshot of life in modern day Scotland.
    So the first episode of this documentary aired last night (Tuesday 14th June) and supposably shows a portrayal of 'Modern Scotland'.

    Shocked certainly describes what I was feeling watching this, from the opening credits whereby a male is seen injecting heroin into his arm in one sequence and a female full on punching another female.

    It certainly doesn't show scotland in a good light, did anybody watch it? If not you should catch it on iPlayer, heres the link;

    Warning; Contains VERY strong language

    yeah I'm the only person from Scotland who can afford a pc
    nah in all seriousness just watched a bit and i don't even know the point in this documentary? it's taken a bad area full of bad people, it's not exactly gonna make us look good
    you failed to mention there was a couple who made a better life for themselves, a woman who takes in homeless people and these homeless people want to make a good life for themselves? don't see how that's shocking at all and yeah sure there was fighting and drug taking but it's the same as any place and that few people don't represent Scotland or even the whole of their area at all it's just ONE estate

    oh just realised the quote you put but still don't see why you're shocked :S

    Are you talking about the couple that can't control there kids, or the couple who are both drug addicts who can't stay out of jail. And yes that women was being nice by taking in them people, but she can't stay out of trouble herself, lying to the police and telling the camera that you have (LOL) and you can see from the images of next week show she arrested for some sort of assault.

    The whole graphic nature of it shocked me, I wouldn't expect something like this to air on the BBC. I live in worthing as well, not much happens in this place apart from OAP's retiring here to die.

    but you only spoke about the negative parts? like I said this happens everywhere and it was clearly the directors desire to make the place look as bad as possible? there is no lead for the story at all, it just shows a bad estate in Scotland. there are bad estates in England too...

    wow I'm sorry you live in such a terrible place.

    Plenty of places in England that are exactly the same. There's poor areas and affluent areas everywhere.

    ikr, to top it off I have to share it with FJ, I can't even be unique.

    I'm not arguing that it's a prejudice view and that it happens all over the world.

    Everywhere has it's Schemes not only Scotland and I'm more than sure there are worse ones in other places. Shame it only shows the negatives.
