Those 2 numbers are probably the most relevant in history for all the wrong reasons. It will be 10 years on Sunday since that day back in 2001 and that day will serve as a day of remembrance for me and to empathise with the families of the victims who have to go about their daily lives with a huge grey cloud looming over their heads.

A massive security operation was underway in New York and Washington D.C. today as police and the FBI hunted three suspected terrorists feared to be planning car bomb strikes on U.S. cities on the tenth anniversary of 9/11.

Thousands of anti-terror officers will be flooding the streets this weekend and radiation detecting boats are patrolling the water as America is put on heightened alert of a terror strike to coincide with Sunday's grim milestone.

Sources revealed the terror cell has been instructed by al Qaeda and could be targeting subways, tunnels and bridges around Manhattan, but other big cities, including Los Angeles and Chicago, are also on red alert.

No American would say 11/9, our months are always before the day, so that would be November 9th. I have never heard anyone say 11/9.

Anyways, 9/11 was a terrible and very sad day. I just watch the movie United 93 this morning about the plane that was headed for the capital building but the passengers on the plane fought back.. it crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. It was the saddest movie I have ever watched.

Everyone who lost friends and loved ones on 9/11 will be in my thoughts.

Yep, Americans put the month first so we have simply followed suit in the naming of "9/11".

Horrific event, probably one of the worst things we will be forced to live through in our lifetimes. I came across quite a moving article here posted on the Orlando Sentinel website (a repeat of the column by Leonard Pitts on 11th September 2001).

Flashbulb memories are amazing things. I remember the day like it was yesterday - I was 7 years old, having a story read to us in Year 3. The teaching assistant came in and told the teacher about the attacks. I remember going home and watching the TV. All the channels had stopped regular shows and were broadcasting the news; I remember the scrolling marquee along the bottom: "America under attack". I remember news reporters running into takeaways to hide from the bilowing smoke, and I remember listening to phone calls to loved ones. Absolutely horrible.

We went to NYC in October 2002 and we visited Ground Zero. We walked around the site, noticing an omniscient cross created from metal beams, standing tall and proud in the centre. There were wooden boards with the names of those who'd lost their lives.

Those brave heroes who formed rescue teams and those who were subject to the wrath of evil will be in my thoughts this weekend.

This is a day I feel sad. And angry. At the terrorists.

A terrible day and truly one of the worst in history. I take my hat off to all the brave rescue teams and men and women within them who also lost lives. And pray this never happens again.

I remember I was in kindergarten and my mother was calling her brother who was in New York at that time. I was terrified when the news was showing 'the falling man'. It was horrifying
