The Greek prime minister has scrapped his plan to hold a referendum on the latest European debt deal for Greece, according to two of his officials. They said George Papandreou made the comments during an emergency Cabinet meeting in Athens.They said his decision came after the main opposition leader said he would back the deal. One also said the premier would not resign despite mounting pressure, and would await the outcome of Friday's confidence vote in his government.

I predicted this last night

This referendum sounds too good to be true if I'm honest, I'm sure something will happen to prevent it (is there a date for it).
No doubt they'll either strike a deal, ignore it, have a coup d'tar or be voted out of government before Greece leaves the Euro.

Although despite being sceptic about it, the Euro can't continue with bailouts and crisis meetings, something has to give eventually.

Totally unsurprised by it all, the EU ran very scared of the referendum idea seeing as they're attempting to blackmail Greece now it seems (no money until its been had). Prolonging the collapse of Greece and the Euro in general will just make it worse when it finally happens.

This shows who really is in charge, the European Union along with Merkel and Sarkozy who are making it clear that the people do not have a right to threaten their dangerous project. But either way Greece will exit the Eurozone as Jordy said, along with the other bankrupt nations (Italy's bond yields jumped again today to 6.4%, close to the tipping point of 7%) which will in turn most likely drag down the even more bankrupt nations like France, thus ending the Eurozone and hopefully the EU.

Avoiding a referendum however only caps the steam pressue in Greece, there's already reports of posters of the Greek army Generals being put up around Athens as some are now calling for the military to save the country yet again.

Greece will leave the EU eventually no matter what happens, maybe not today, maybe not next week perhaps not this year, but the sooner they do the less money we'll have wasted keeping it afloat with the silly euro

Yeh there's no doubt about that. It's pretty obvious that they won't be the only ones out the door either, willingly or not. It's nothing but problems and issues that are constantly brushed under the rug

Hopefully when they do leave we'll also leave sharpish so we don't get caught up in the ****storm which ensues. Then we can start again with a nice new european economy and we can have nice free trade with none of the pointless regulations.
