    Default Braces help :{ +rep.

Okay, I got braces at erm well some time in August (16th or something)

When I first got them, I was fine with brushing and all the wires seemed to be in place and fine.
I then had them tightened and what not, but after a while one of the wires came out and stuck into my gum. I went to the people about it and it was fixed, they also tightened the other one as it had the exact same problem. I think I've got the problem again but it just hurts so much, it's digging into the bottom of my gum and idk what's wrong. Whenever I brush my teeth (like any of them) where the brace is all connected it hurts them. I hate not brushing (the least I'll brush my teeth is 2 times a day, although I usually do it more) so it's really not an option but it hurts so much I've been in tears lol. :|

Should I go to the orthodontist for them to remove another wire? I really dunno what I've done wrong as I've been eating soft stuff and the same thing happened so I don't see how it could have been just me getting it wrong. Does anyone know if it's easy to just put the wire back on the hook thing or would it just be easier for me to go the orthodontist and have them fixing it? Also, is it okay if the colour come off the brace?

Are you on about the very back bit when the wire pokes out? If so it poked me in the begining and I can still feel where it ripped my gum. Urm, it's obviously causing problems so it would be sensible to get it sorted and not just go along with it. Regarding the bands coming off. It's pretty simple to put back on... unless you've lost it/snapped - If I lost mine I wouldn't go back until the next appointment

I would advise going straight to the Orthodontist, I also havebraces and thanks to me for leaving it a while before going back to get a loose wire re-connected, it's added on a couple of months before I can have them removed. Also, i'm fairly sure the pain will go away shortly after the Orthodontist has finished with it!

I only had 2 problems with my braces. Once it was a week before my next appointment so I waited, the second I just called in and they were totally fine with it. They have booking spots left unbooked for people who have braces problems so go in, they get people all the time
It's better to get the pain fixed because if you don't, you risk adding more months onto your time you have them. And if you need to wait a bit before getting it fixed, use the wax stuff.
Oh and I didn't have coloured braces, because mine were different, but go in when you get the wire fixed and ask anyway

Thanks for the replies, I'm going to look for the wax stuff while I'm waiting for my dad to book an appointment. I'll ask about the colour as well when I'm there.

I had the same problem when I first got them and then occasionally, some of the wires come out but my orthodontist said nothing wrong with them. Just use wax, that what I did at the start, but it doesn't always help because sometimes the wire goes through the wax, meaning I had to add a massive blob of wax onto it.

You can buy that wax stuff from Boots, its not expensive either. It's normally near all the toothbrushes etc, just ask them if you can't find them, the big Boots stores definitely do have them!
