money! lion king 3d grossed roughly $167 million dollars worldwide, which is incredibly a lot considering it was a re-release for only a few weeks. so now disney wish to emulate this dry with loads of other classic films.

I'm so happy they're doing this!! It's now Beauty and the Beast I think. Really fab idea to get moneyz $$. It's great that they're also bringing them out on DVD in 3D aswell as I missed the Lion King but I'm gonna try watching all the others in 3D!

I would have loved to have seen lion king in 3D, used to love that film as a kid.

Re-releasing older films is nothing new and has been done for decades. In fact, each and every week, such films see the big screen again in only a handful of screens across the country. Nationwide re-releases, however, backed by generous marketing budgets and plenty of screens (recent examples being The Lion King and Jurassic Park), are also nothing new. It's the 3D conversion aspect which is relatively new, as well as completely unnecessary. Speaking of The Lion King, the recent re-issue featured the most hilariously misjudged use of 3D I've ever seen in an animated film.

If you wish to enjoy classic films on the big screen, either again or for the first time, head to your local independent or art house cinema and check out a 35mm print, rather than the digital prints screened today.

No, thank god. The HD remaster was released in October to coincide with the Blu-ray launch, but barely made any money.
