    Question Debates

A while ago there was talk of a new debates manager and it never really happened. I have just been on the debates forum and there are no official debates, and the last post in a user debate was on the 9th of January.
Its a shame because when managed the debates forum can be really active and a good way to talk about serious issues.
I was just curious as to if the debates forum is going to be revived because if it isn't you may as well get rid of it and make the debates a subsection of news.

This, Grig has recently just got the debates leader role and I'm sure there will be debates very soon for you all.

Please don't hire another Debates Manager, it never works. They have to post some information on the topic of debate and most of the time bias is unavoidable and the debate is soiled before it ever begins. Not forgetting that some of the debates are over in a matter of posts, or so dull and dry that there's nothing really to discuss. I would of thought the last x amount of debates leaders that clearly got bored of the role would of been a sign that it doesn't work. Member debates are more interesting in my opinion.

Yes, many interesting issues for debate were posted in the news forum. Debates will try and get a re-vamp to discuss issues happening in the news at the moment or those that genuinely interest our forum demographic. There won't be just some classic debates like "Does God Exist" etc. those have become boring and really don't bring originality. The debates forum can be revived in terms of official debates, however, I can't speak for members debates as that's up to you guys .

I don't see how bias is unavoidable, well at least in terms of my terms of debates leader in the past. If you actually read them, I give two sides of the argument all the time. This is crucial because never has a debates leader, or in my case (I) haven't given any bias, and I would like to see you give examples of this to back what you just said . Also, for your argument of debates leaders leaving all the time, it's just unfortunate as they generally resign from their Habbox jobs and leave the forum, no one can do anything about that. I have been debates leader a while ago for 6 months or so; furthermore, I don't plan on going anywhere in the near future! I will try and make debates you can discuss; however, obviously some issues will interest some over others as we try to bring variety and if you want to suggest anything you might want to delve into simply suggest it into this thread and I will seriously take your suggestions into account . Sure after this huge break it might take a while to build up (so don't expect masses of replies on the first few debates!), but I think there's a market to build it up. Debates, as I have always done are posted weekly on Sunday, so watch for one in a couple of days.

You speak as though you were the only worth while Debates Leader and that you're the best thing to happen to the Debates forum since Debater of the Month Awards Other Debate Leaders have fallen foul to unavoidable bias due to the topics they have chosen e.g. the Moon Landings. The uninterest in the idea they never happened soiled one side of the discussion.

In some cases having the information dictated to users to start off the debate makes it not worthwhile, when debates are meant to be a mixture of members involved in the debate fetching their own information and their opinions on the matter. You wouldn't go into the House of Commons and hear the Speaker give a 30 minute speech that could damage the validity of the debate with picked out information on why it is or isn't a good idea - it's what the MPs are there for and in many cases they would know more about the discussion than the Speaker.

As for the "suggest debates" threads - why lower the forum post count by waiting a week for a new debate, especially when debates have a deadline? Members could easily post their own debates, which I have always found nicer to read and watch, without the hassle of relying on a Debates Leader's own opinion on what makes a suitable debate? Good discussions about child birth without an income, the nuclear family, PORN, military robotics and so forth. If you based debates purely on news articles you risk taking away views from the Current Affairs forum and having just one type of debate - current, topical debates rather than an interesting mix.

If and when you post debates, you have a lot of work to do - to find interesting things to discuss.

^^ As I said before "issues happening in the news at the moment or those that genuinely interest our forum demographic", which doesn't solely mean news .

I think a short point on each argument is useful to kick the debate off, and so people may be aware of both sides, well at least that's the format we've always used here. All our debates leaders in the past performed well, I was just giving examples of why they resigned and what not, not that me or anyone else was the best. I'll be honest, nothing too much monumentally different will happen so don't expect stuff to shift a massive tangent. Also, as for members debates, like I have also said that sadly is out of my jurisdiction and it's up to the members to create debates. Members can feel free to post debates anytime, referring to your post count statement.

Also, "interesting stuff" to one person may be boring to another. We aren't genetic clones to one another who share the same interests. I know people on here who love to go into political debates, whilst others who prefer more stuff linked to popular culture and what not.
