Default What are these called? Suggestions please!

Okay, not quite sure what thes are called, but I want something that is like a media center I guess to watch movies on through the TV!

I'm currently using my PS3 but that's on its way out (its fan starts getting loud while sitting on the XMB and yeah.. original 60gb model with no dust inside etcc).. Anyway, I want something simple with an internal HDD so I don't have to move an external HDD around so much!

Any suggestions on a good one? Budget is roughly 200GBP!

We ordered a Western Digital one the other day and we're just waiting for it to arrive. Apple TV looked enticing at first but you can only play .mp4 files which would be a pain. Apparently the WD one is one of the best there is out there at the moment (and it claims to play anything) so we'll wait and see! I think they're just called Media Players / Centres.

    Boxee Box
    Another PS3
    A Windows Media Center PC

Out of those three, depends on your needs.

I did think about a WDTV but are they good? The original Apple one sounded good since its more use than just a media center, thats why I like.the PS3. but I don't play the playstation much anymore, I'm getting old (that's a joke!)

How much would a media PC cost? I only have a couple of mkv / avi files that I'd watch. Also an auto shutdown would be good"

To be honest, I reckon your best bet would be a new PS3 personally.

Yeah, I was thinking that to be honest, a new slim one would be cool.. Except it doesn't play MKV files Okay, I could "jailbreak" it again, but yeah..

Use TVersity on your PC to transcode them on the fly as it's streaming the files to the PS3.

My chunky PS3 died too, and strangely the slim PS3 breathes new life into gaming, television and streaming. So Recursion's suggestion is a good one. At least the PS3 is a cheap(ish) option which you can use if you ever want to return to playing PS3 games in the future.

Okay well I'll think about it all for a bit. If it goes haywire and I actually can't afford something I will be able to use my laptop connected to the TV!

I barely play games anymore anyway! I think I'm either over them or there is nothing good out. CBA with COD/Battlefield and I used to play NHL but that is SO repetitive it's a joke.
