    Default SOPA bill withdrawn

Lamar Smith, the chief sponsor of SOPA, said on Friday that he is pulling the bill “until there is wider agreement on a solution.”

“I have heard from the critics and I take seriously their concerns regarding proposed legislation to address the problem of online piracy,” Smith (R-Texas) told Reuters. “It is clear that we need to revisit the approach on how best to address the problem of foreign thieves that steal and sell American inventions and products.”

He said that "american jobs are being lost" to this is reply that the internet creates 2.4 jobs for every job that it destroys. Breaking the internet to save the film industry a couple of employees isn't worth it.

Funny you say that Ryan, because it did, on the day of the blackouts. It's called OPEN (Online Protection and Enforcement of Digital Trade Act). http://keepthewebopen.com/

That's one of the worst acronyms for an Act I have ever seen. They realised they could spell out OPEN but after Enforcement it went dry. So for that, the Act won't go anywhere either. Acronyms are meant to be clever, this one isn't. Greatly disappointed.

I'm amazed how quickly they spun out another Act, usually they leave it a week before announcing another one because they know the storm would have died down. The US should just give up trying to make laws to regulate the internet, purely for the fact that by doing so they're removing the very purpose of the internet in the first place. The Government should just tell the film and music industry to shut up and stop capitalising in ever sense of the word.
