Default [Solve Problem for Donater & Rep] Wireless will only work locally?

I'm trying to access the internet on my compaq presario cq50, it's fairly old it's using windows vista. I know for a fact the wireless itself works because it works on my sisters router. I contacted my isp asking could they help me and they said they don't know the problem. I'm assuming it's the wireless settings for my home router on my laptop but i don't know how to resolve the problem, any ideas?

I tried to reboot to factory settings
    Move closer to the router

And i can still only connect locally. First response that solves the problem gets the donater and every post with genuine good advice gets rep.

    Cheers,
    Rich.

You're sure the wireless card actually works, Richie? And it is turned on (sorry sounds dumb!)

Also can you see your network when you scan for networks?

Try updating the drivers for the wireless card.

Does it recognise the wireless network or can it not find it?

What encryption does your WLAN use? Older laptops may not be able to support WPA2 for example.

    Exclamation

Although you said windows vista. I'm fluent with seven So hear me out.

CLICK ON STEPS TO OPEN TUT IMAGES

    Step 1
Right click on your "Network icon" in Your Start bar.
    Click "Network & Sharing Center"

    Step 2
    Click "Manage Wireless Networks"

    Step 3
Click on any network in this list and click "Remove / Delete" (you will have to do this for every network)

    Step 4

Close The Current window window.. (Make sure you do this after completing the steps above)
Open the "Network & Sharing" Center and go to "Change Adapter Settings"

    Step 6
Obviously you should see your wireless connection, Right click on this and select "Properties"

    Another Dialog Box will open..

    Step 7
Double click on "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)"

    Step 8
Tick all the visible boxes labeled "Obtain an IP Address Automatically"

    Click OK.

    Restart your Laptop.

probably not much help but i had exactly the same problem with mine (compaq presario cq70) so began to just plug in the ethernet cable and use that rather than wireless. after leaving it plugged in for a while and then unplugging it i found that the wireless would be working again. wireless has now miraculously fixed itself and have been using it without plugging in for a good few months with no problems,

sorry im not a computer genius but if all else fails it may help x

Doing this is basiclly the easy way around What i just Displayed in my Previous post, Your laptop has forgotten the settings of your previous connection to the router and you re-newed the connection by reconnecting to the router again.
    Thank-you,
