Default Awful mother on the bus

So basically, there is a god awful mother on the bus which I see the days I finish early. She gives her kids sweets and crap (one of them is like four, the other not much older). Now some may say it's not bad, but it is really quite a lot she gives them and she is obese herself so. They scream constantly and whine about the smallest things (which I guess kids generally does) but she really does not tackle it well and all these threats she makes; "you're going to bed when we get home"; "do you want to go back in your pram?"; "do you want to sit next to me?" aren't even huge threats at all, and I know the latter two aren't even fufilled. I could guess the other one isn't considering they literally just ignore anything she says. Anyway this didn't bother me as it wasn't much of my business (apart from all the screaming but it's never quiet on the bus with many people) but yesterday on the way home, I was sat in front of her (not my choice) and her kids almost climb over the seat onto me, lean on me, kick the chair and I'm pretty sure one of them hid their sock in my hood.

Now it angers me I never said anything as that woman needs to be moaned and her parenting angers me. I mean for comparison, the other parents who get the bus with their kids are practically always fine (with the odd telling off here and there, but not constant and the same things over and over).

    I FEEL FOR YOU.
There's this disgusting woman who is on the bus I catch home from school. Her children are always climbing around over... well I don't even think they're her kids because there's a teenage daughter and they call one of them Grandma... but then there's an older woman he gets on too so I think there's probably four generations IT'S ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!!!!!! Can't STAND them.. they smell too and you can tell that they're on the bus because they smell UGHHHHH!!

you know what 2 years ago i prob woulda agreed and said poor you, but looking after a kid myself for nearly a year has made me less judgemental.

not yr place to say whether she's an awful mother or not really, since you have no experience of mothering. just idk yeah. maybe she's making mistakes but she'll learn from them and it's not rly yr place to say she's awful or not.

i don't like this style of parenting. i see my mum do it with my nephew. if my brother says no to giving him sweeties, he goes straight to my mum and cries and she gives in. it's hard though, you can't win. if you're out in the street and you discipline them or shout at them then people look at you as though you're a bad person but i guess that's what you have to do, it's better than having people look at your misbehaving kids and judging you. i feel sorry for her though cause i see kids like that who just won't listen, if you give in to them ONCE then they'll continue acting up until they get what they want. i dread parenting, i will be awful cause i know i'll end up giving it to stop them crying :/ my brother is quite strict with my nephew so i respect his decision to not let him eat sweets and i tell him off if he's misbheaving. itdoesn't really make the mum a bad person, maybe she doesn't realize it's her problem or it's too late for her to discipline them so i'm not gonna judge but i bet it's horrible for her - she lives with it every day, you don't.

I guess this is something a lot of parents go through but I agree with what has been said above, in public it's better to give them what they want rather than draw attention to yourself and the kid(s). I guess sometimes it doesn't work either way because if your seen giving discipline then your frowned upon but if your seen basically doing what that woman is doing you seen as not doing enough I guess it's sometimes not a win-win situation. Also I like to keep open mindedbecausethat could only be theirbehaviorkind of on the bus I know my cousins are fine when they are walking in their prams but when they are on buses they just seem to go ape.

Have you tried turning round as saying politely "could you tell your children to be quiet, I've got a really bad headache." Unless she's pig ignorant, she'll tell them to shut up.

...no parent would appreciate a random teenager telling them how to look after their own child.

Eugh this used to happen so much on the bus to college in the mornings, some crazy mother would get on and her kids would literally scream the bus down and at 7am in the morning its not pleasant haha. Bit of a tricky situation really, since the mother should know best afterall, but in some cases they really need to have more control over their own kids. Must be quite embarrassing for them in a way.
