Default The Pirate Bay stop using torrents - now using magnet links

It seems in a bid to save money, time and also to make it harder for the law to come down on them, the pirate bay has removed torrents and now is only using magnet links.

I'm not an expert in the field and don't know what the difference is, how much harder it is etc. but it does show that file sharing sites are being hit a lot more now.

Basically, your torrent client remembers a list of peers that you've downloaded or uploaded to in the past, when you add a magnet link, instead of relying on a central torrent server it queries these peers to see if they know anything about the content you're looking for.

Kind of get it but unsure how it will make the fight between the law and them any different - no matter what ways they do they'll still come down on them for giving people access to copyrighted content.

Interesting to see them move. It doesn't bother me much as I stopped using torrents in favour of other methods of download a while ago.

Haven't used magnet links before but it is definitely faster for me. The magnet links on TPB don't work on google chrome, anyone know what's the sus? They work on FF fine.

You have probably disabled it - Basically sometimes when opening a link it will ask you what to do you can allow, allow allows or deny always etc. I had the same problem but realised why:

Basically close chrome, Go to Run and enter%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data open Local State file with notepad and do a search in notepad forprotocol_handler - find the line with magnet and delete the entire line and then re-open chrome. Chrome has to be closed while doing that process or it won't work
