    Default Spotlight: The Game Team

Part of the purpose of this blog, is for you to get to know the back-end of Sulake and everyone that works with Habbo. So to get things started, Mark will be shedding some light on the development team known as… The Game Team!

The Game Team was created at the end of October 2011 and their first project was the revamped version of SnowStorm that was released for Xmas of that year. The team has a revolving staff, depending on needs. Right now it has seven members, two graphic designers, two coders, a testing engineer and a few others.

When it comes to working on new games, the team collects feedback from the Uservoice project and also from Fanistes to see what kind of games Habbos want to be playing. The aim for the team is to make fun, multiplayer social games with an original Habbo-esque twist. The biggest major challenge for the team is definitely lag (delays between the action of players), which can be caused for several reasons – but most often by the slow network speed. It’s also challenging to find that one great, right idea that fits the Habbo brand (so no plans for Habbo: Warzone 1917 are in the pipeline), and then making it scalable for both social and competitive play.

Currently the team is working on several different, but related projects. The first is an API for Habbo and future Habbo games. API stands for Application Programming Interface, and will make it easier for games to be added to, and integrated into Habbo. Acronyms are great. The team is also working on ways to make Habbo’s pixilated look & feel scale easier for games, depending on the size of the browser window.

During this spring, the team will launch a new Habbo Game, although the date isn’t known yet, and during the summer they’re hoping to launch another game that’s been co-developed with a British-based third party. The future looks nifty!

As for the game they’re currently working on, well we can’t really give much away at this stage, except to say that it’ll require good reactions, it’s playable through Habbo, it’ll be multiplayer and something that you probably should never try in real life. The name of the game hasn’t been decided yet, but here’s a few possible names that I suggested to the Team’s leader when I interviewed him: Airdrop Action, Super Fun Happy Game For Benefit Of Mankind, Falling Fiasco, Deadwood, and Food: The Game. In case your wondering, the Team Leader didn’t reply to my ideas, he just got up and left the room. Oh, look below for a nice preview image.

It looks bad, I think. Who knows, though? Those are just previews.

I think it looks funny but the Habb alternative clothing range couldn't be more different than the other image. I'd like Habb on phones though.
