G'day peeps.
Who here lives in Manchester? What's it like compared to London apart from being cheaper? Is there a decent public transport system in operation there? Like the Tube, that's bloody amazing! ALSOOOOOO, whats a decent part of Manchester (what's it's bloody nickname?) I mean, apparently Salford isn't bad, and fallowfield is good for students since it's near uni's I am guessing?

I went to Manchester a couple of months ago and have a friend who lives there, seemed a decent place to me. I don't think they have anything as involved as the tube, but they have the metro which is kind of like the DLR in London I guess.

I basically live in London, and Manchester didn't seem all that different except the city centre is smaller, there's less to do, it rains more and there's pigeons everywhere. Some really nice places in Manchester though, and it's good for shopping.

Awesome! So it's a tram system pretty much like in Melbourne Hopefully they don't smell like piss like the ones here do!

That's awesome! I've just been looking on Gumtree for places (even though I'll be moving in a year!) it's just I'm not sure what type of suburb/shire/area/etc I want to live in. Ideally it'd be somewhere that is close to public transport and close enough to go out at night since I won't have an automobile!

I'm always confused by what people mean as in "less to do", do you mean stuff like sightseeing or places like science works/aquarium/museums etc which are really a once-off thing? Or plays which I never go to anyways.

Here's a route map for the metrolink and there's some good information on it on wikipedia. Public transport generally seems very good there, so it shouldn't be too hard to find a place to live close by.

By less to do, I just mean in general. London is so huge and diverse, there's an abundance of things to do and places to go in all areas, hence the famous quote "when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life." Of course, Manchester is still a big place with lots to offer, it just doesn't offer as much as London is what I'm saying.
