The Shining

In the process of reading the book actually. But I watched the movie too, was great.
Except for the grandma scene.
And the man n' bear one.
Other than that it was the best horror I'll ever watch!
My favorite scenes in personal are when the elevators open and this giant pool of blood strings out...loved it! I also liked when Danny saw the twins and kept flashing back and forth from them dead to alive, dead, alive, second best by far!

But if you HAVE seen it, what were your favorite scenes, and which part did you like best?

The book is amazing but I'm not so keen on the film. The film has some great suspense but I feel there wasn't enough back story. Obviously there's a limit with what they can tell story wise in a film compared to a book, but I felt they turned Jack into a very two dimensional character. In the book as you read along you will learn about past experiences Jack has had (I don't want to spoil them) but you will also learn how he really doesn't want them to repeat and how much he fights them so that when he does break down (although there is a very sudden beautiful moment near the end) it makes it all the worse.

I watched the films years ago read the book a year ago and watched the film again recently - I'd enjoyed the film but had questioned why it was so popular - e.g. scariest film in channel 4 vote thing etc. It did seem a bit better atmosphere wise than I remember but as I've just finished a degree in Film and TV Production I probably see things in a different light now. But it still falls flat for me.

I read there is a documentary out looking at the film in depth, because there is a lot of belief about hidden allegories

Also Stephen King wasn't too keen on the film and did his own TV adaptation (need to check it out actually as I haven't seen it)

Apparently the movie had lots of hidden messages in it yes. About Holocaust. But yes I'm only on Chapter 20, and I have the first part of the episode apparently available on youtube:

Will get more of the book covered Monday. Plus it might've been so popular or scary because during the 90's horror was very different but thats most likely not it.

While I like hidden messages in films I find this might be a film that's been over analysed far too much than it needs to
