Default Just a small point about Moderation...

I've seen this a fair bit whilst using the forum lately, but moderation kk, I'm not having a drill at it in general, just something in particular.

When people post something and it's removed, I barely ever see moderators checking to make sure nobody has quoted the post and edited the post? Prime example is that a user posted some private info, and it was edited out but was quoted, and the quotes weren't edited.

the worst part is it's the forum manager who made the mistake, and yes it's a mistake i'm not jumping the gun and calling moderation crap, it's not hard to overlook stuff like that but i could probably dig out a couple of examples if i had a good search. it's just seeing the forum manager do it, who should know better than anyone considering how you get to that rank through moderation experience, has made the mistake and thus it's prompted me to make this thread

    has anyone else noticed this?

I guess since its a very rare occasion that the Forum Manager moderates (and is only doing so at the moment due to lack of super moderators and is helping out), that mistakes may get made. Its always happened really and isnt a new thing, if you're rushing its very easy to forget to check for quotes, but its something that moderators should train themselves to always make a point of doing yes. Especially for private information and serious things etc. I remember quite a few instances where other moderators have come along and removed them where the initial moderator has forgotten etc. Its not a huge problem and is just a mistake as you said and they do happen a lot in the world unfortunately. Just a case of reminding moderators to check the quotes if it becomes a constant problem, I remember 2 or 3 reminders being posted during my various times as moderator and yeah.

If you do spot something just report the post, or alert a mod in that section I guess, I'm sure the Forum Manager would bring it up with the team if it was becoming constant. Also the case when you have new moderators/moderators returning from long gaps etc, I guess things may slip occasionally.

yeah martin im not having a major dig, its just seeing scott do it has made me think about leading by example n all that is all, like i mentioned it's not hard to overlook that kinda thing. just really a case of making sure is all yknow? i dunno whether the user being informed of people quoting posts (via the notifications) can be channeled into something useful for moderators, like a little note on each post that says whether the post has been quoted or not?

I guess that would be useful yes, although really moderators should get into the habbit of reading a thread fully when moderating it anyway, since they should be checking all the posts in their sections ideally. Like I said, I guess with Forum Managers not actually doing much actual moderating often, and not really having assigned sections like moderators that they would not necessarrily read the whole thread whereas a moderator would. Just a case of knowing that every time you remove content its essential you check for edits and after a while that just becomes natural thing to do when you're doing it on a daily basis, rather than like a yearly one. Mistakes are good in a way since they can always be worked on and it does clear things up for future quite often. I'm not sure how many cases you've seen of this lately or if its just the one but I'm sure the team would be addressed if it was a frequent issue.

You're picking too much on the fact I named scott, I'm just saying he's the one who prompted me to, I'm not saying he's made mistakes everytime, just this once (that I've noticed). Making it sound like I'm picking on him

but yeah i guess its just refreshing peoples memories, i understand it aint hard to miss something like that out, but i've seen it here and there and sort of thought wut? i think i saw it on one of flyingjesus's posts not too recently also, idk might just be that nobodys picked up on that it's a problem or perhaps its not even one at all.

well you did say that you felt that was the worst part to be fair. In which I would disagree, since I don't think there's that much difference between the forum manager making the mistake or any other member of moderation/management. Mistakes can be made by anyone regardless of experience, and its always happened really over the years and isnt a new thing. Moderators moreso than forum managers (since they only moderate in times of crisis)

Now that its been brought up though I'm sure moderators will ensure they do check, but I don't think its the end of the world if occasionally one does get missed, it shouldn't like if that ethos to always check the rest of the thread is there. I do think it does go unnoticed sometimes since other people don't always read the quotes in threads I guess and once it goes onto the next page its basically forgotten about haha. It's not a huge problem but its always nice to iron little things like this out before they do become a problem.

nah it's not the end of the world at all, like i said it's just a small point and im not bashing the moderation department! probably shouldnt have said it's the worst part, probably not the best way to translate what i meant, simply meant that being the forum manager, the manager manages the moderators, that is the only gripe i had and tbh as you say there isn't that much difference to it anyway, as it does sometimes happen as mistakes do.

This happened to me yesterday whereby I'd quoted someone and it wasn't removed I think although matts didn't notice it at first he did edit it quickly which could be due to the report or just skimming the thread.

At least the quote I took wasn't out of the park rude whereby sometimes I see stuff about eating disorders in quotes I'm sure moderators will be extra careful I never noticed it was a big deal but I think bringing it up was good.

like i said, some staff are always defensive even when they know they were wrong but ot, yes. i've seen this happening many times and tbh, they always repeat this 'mistake'. aint a mistake anymore when the same smod/mod repeated it. they tend to overlook stuff like this.
