    Default Locking active threads

I don't mean to be biting mods heads off because this is really minor but:

Why would you lock the inactive thread, clearly people weren't interested in the other thread for whatever reason and it seems a shame to kill discussion just so people use the right thread. Understandably if there are two topics both with discussion it makes sense but it seems that closing active threads in favor of inactive ones is counter productive especially since the other thread was nearly two weeks old.

Kinda agree, although there's no reasons discussions can't continue into the other thread... I think the problem with merging to long threads is that replys get bundled together and it looks messy and confusing IMO however thats a though of my own and not the mod dept.

Do you mean long threads as in made 2 week ago or long threads with lots of replies because as far as I could see the other thread had no replies? Am I missing the point, however, I do agree that you shouldn't close an active thread, if the other was active then so be it close or merge it but it wasn't. .

I suppose if the other thread didn't have any replies then It would be probably a good idea to merge the two threads together or close the one with 0 replies and keep the one that does have replies open.

What do you mean it gets confusing? That will only happen if both of the threads are a completely different topic, which in this case they're not. The closed thread is asking what do you think of the Olympic Torch Relay, so the majority people will reply if they're going to see it or running with it most likely.

And the methods of closing the thread and directing people to the other thread is silly because if user posted something, another user could come along and create discussion whereas closing it would resulting in them replying with a general yes or no reply with hardly any content. The only reasons I can think of why you close them instead of making use with the Merge tool is laziness, or you want a bigger thread count on the forum statistics.

I would of merged them personally as obviously the newer thread had replies and the thread people have be directed to has relevant info too. I'm sure when Martin sees this he'll sort something out.

With the forum this quiet, perhaps the quietest it's ever been @brandon could revise the moderation system a bit to incorporate fixes to some of the niggly little bits that can kill of discussions.

^ I still think we need something big forum-wise to get it up. That posting challenge fell through the ground last time and nothing's going to improve unless some campaigns/ large events are done targeting the forum .
