Default If someone told you they did a serious crime, what would you do?

I've been thinking about this topic for a while now. It hasn't actually happened to me but I'm not sure what I would do. I think, in most cases I would keep it a secret and live with the guilt of knowing, but then again I could feel really guilty and want to confess it was them.

I guess it depends what they did, and who to. However, it would be difficult if both people were your friend.

What would you do in what circumstance? Think of it as, if someone you knew, and were closed to murdered someone who was also close to you. What would you do?

It will be interesting to hear thoughts.

if it was something small such as theft i'd probably persuade them to go to the police themselves, otherwise it is their problem and not mine. if it was something serious involving violence and especially murder then i'd 100% go to the police as i wouldn't want myself or others to be around someone like that, no matter how close i was to them. i'd obviously do it quietly though. eh i've reported two crimes before and nothing has been done about them. seems as though police don't care about 'threats' and rather wait until something bad actually happens..

Depends on the crime but murder/rape/domestic violence/child abuse, I would report without a doubt.

Same as Mike, it would depend on the crime really. I wouldn't think twice about reporting someone who murderered someone or was sick towards children. I guess another factor I would consider is who they were. It'd be hard to report one of my family or close friends.

i was basically going to say the same thing as this tbh as i feel the same way i think obviously if it was someone like my mother or brother then it would probably be quite hard but it'd defiantly mess my head up knowing they were a murderer or anything along those lines..

Quite a difficult one really then... Yeah all depends on what the crime was and who they were in relation to you from my point of view...

if someone is stupid enough to tell me that they've committed a serious crime, then of course i would go to the police. if they didn't want the police to find out, they should of kept it a secret (oh and i don't care if they are/were my friend. don't exactly want to associate with people who've did a serious crime. naw man) .

If it was something violent or puts other people in danger then I'd definitely report it, but I don't tend to have friends who act in those ways

Yeah like most people it would depend who the person is and what the crime was
I don't like to break trust though so I would probably keep it a secret until I really couldn't.

Likely I'd just keep it to myself and try to forget about it, unless it was really serious and eating away at me I may anonymously report it or something...
