    Default Hello Democracy, Goodbye ACTA

ACTA is now officially on the run, globally, after the European Parliament executed a landslide smack-down on the controversial legislation. At 12:56 today, in a rare occurrence of protecting liberties, the Parliament voted against ACTA 478 to 39. Due to the set-up of ACTA if Europe does not enforce ACTA then it fails globally.

The European Commissioner has however stated that he will pursue to enact ACTA through any means possible but thanks to the landslide "no" this seems unlikely to succeed.

Many are referring to today as European Independence Day, free of interference from American corporations in European affairs.

Funny how this happened on the 4th of July, where America is meant to show its' independence and yet it has signed this and Europe has given it a big "no".

Hardly surprising, the one thing Europe loves is internet freedom. All of Scandinavia is against anything like this, and I'm sure we've all heard of the Swedish Pirate Party which just loathe anything like this. The Dutch are very much against this sort of legislation. In fact, the only ones that seem to be for it are Germans, but even they cross their fingers in the hopes that it won't pass.

For once European Democracy has appeared in the Commission, and just on time too

Didn't the commission say they would just ignore the parliament and pass the law through anyway? Oh yeah just read the rest of the article lol. I think the main problem is the fact that the the parliament doesn't have ultimate authority over laws.
