Buying cigarettes online?

I was reading on the news that there was this test done where these adults watched children order packets of cigarettes online and see if they were delivered to the house.

I was thinking: let's say you were 15 years old sitting at your PC and you're "hard" so you go online to buy some cigarettes with a debit card, for instance. You confirm you are 18 and they get dispatched.

Now a) would the parcel company - e.g. Royal Mail know what was inside it and b) would they ask for ID at the house.

My main question is: What happens if they find out you're not actually 18?

it's not the parcel companies responsibility. if the company selling the cigarettes don't regulate whose buying their products (and it's so easy to get around), then that's their fault. i used to buy alcohol from tesco with my food shopping when i was under 18 (~such a rebel) and it says the driver will check that you're 18 but they rarely did. and when they did, i just said it's my mums and no one else is in (even though the shopping was solely for me). i know it's not the same, but it's far too easy to lie/get around issues when purchasing things online. and i'd imagine it's quite difficult to regulate aswell.

If it's Royal Mail they most likely will not have information on what's actually in the package, but any private courier ought to know and should ask for ID on delivery, although whether or not this actually happens ever I can't say

well i doubt the actual person will give two ***** as it's just a parcel to them, but they should return to sender. it's easy to lie anyway as you could just say it's for your dad but he's out but you'll make sure that he's around for the next delivery.

They wouldn't be able to make the delivery as it would be in violation of the law, and if you were the one who ordered them so would you. It's much simpler to just not smoke

Why would anybody order cigarettes online? More hassle than it's worth... When I wasn't old enough to buy them I got my mum to buy me them lol.

surely there must be a dodgy shop near you who will serve without ID
or just get a fake ID
or don't smoke
