Since I can't do the quest for the Dragon Scimmy yet, what is the best alternative?

Even though a lot of people consider it to be a 'noob' weapon, the d long really isn't that bad in comparison as far as xp goes. It just gets a bad rep because the quest is relatively easy compared to MM.
