EU CHIEF BARROSO CALLS FOR EUROPEAN FEDERAL SUPERSTATE WITH ITS OWN MILITARY

European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso has called for a 'federal Europe'

Speaking at his annual state of the European Union address, Barroso, in a desperate bid to save the euro from destruction, said that the nations of the EU need to realise they are 'in the crisis together.' He said the crisis, which had hit Greece, Portugal and Spain had 'fuelled populism and extremism' in Europe.

Barroso said: "Europe needs a new direction." "Old ideas" will not work anymore and greater political union is needed in order to save the euro currency, he said. Barroso said the EU needs to "move toward a federation of nation states" that involves shared sovereignty, drawing a distinction between that and a "superstate."

"Pooled sovereignty means more power, not less," he argued. The EC chief even claimed that the EU should have its own military force which would be able to intervene in conflicts 'when needed.' Barroso added that the Commission would continue to pursue the highly controversial financial transaction tax. He claimed this would benefit taxpayers in the financial services industry, instead of only having the sector benefiting from taxpayers.

This is not the first time that Barroso has made such comments, last year he also made comments as the crisis deepened in Greece. He said: "What we need now is a new, unifying impulse, a new federalist moment - let's not be afraid to use the word. "The right way to stop the negative cycle and strengthen the euro is to deepen integration, mainly in the euro area. This is the way to go."

His comments come as the highest court in Germany ruled that they would not stand in the way of an international £400billion fund to save the 17 countries of the eurozone by allowing them to lend money without restraint. Meanwhile it has been revealed that banks in London could be shut down or forced into bailouts against the wishes of British authorities under a controversial 'banking union' proposed by the European Commission. Decisions taken by the powerful body would be automatically binding, according to reports.

But the UKIP leader said that whilst it may seem to many that hope had gone, in fact what Mr Barroso had done today was bring the much desired referendum "a little bit closer." "The British people hearing you...making it clear that Member States 'must obey' will repulse millions of British people."
Could it be anymore clearer than this? quote after quote, statement after statement, treaty after treaty all state what the eventual aim is - the end of the nation states of Europe and the creation of a 'United States of Europe'. When I say how this is the most important issue facing this country (its very existence and independence) - I mean it.

    Thoughts on Barrosos proposal?

Removing national democracy to save a currency seems absurd at best.

Farage had another discussion later where he challenged the EU's "democracy"
