Strict rationing of these addresses - called IPv4 - has been started by the body that hands them out in Europe.
From now on, companies can only make one more application for IPv4 addresses and, if successful, will only get 1,024 of them.
In addition, any application for more old addresses must demonstrate how an organisation is using the new, replacement, addressing scheme.
This is one of the more significant events along the way to IPv6, companies will now be struggling a LOT more to get new IP allocations and only get them if they have proper IPv6 implementations.

What really gets me is vendors not throwing out firmware updates for products they're still selling... the only thing stopping me from deploying IPv6 at work is our wireless access points.
It's frustrating, even our ISP uses IPv6, but I really don't want to NAT if I can help it.:8
