how does it change without me doing it? been getting "bootmgr is missing" errors on startup, i looked it up and it turns out it was trying to boot from my optical drive which wasnt a problem until a few days ago.

Have you set it back to the way it should be in BIOS?

could have always been that way and you only just put a disc in it?
had the disc in it for like a month
Hypothetically if your Hard Drive wasn't registered during a bootup it'd default to CD, when the hard drive is registered on a subsequent boot it might default to last in the boot order depending on the BIOS.
