Scary Poems!

Does anyone know any scary poems I could use, they need to be scary but suitable for 13 to 25 year olds. Also need to have no swearing! Tyy!

I always thought "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe was meant to be "scary". It does seem slightly un-nerving but I guess "scary" is kind of ambiguous in reference to poems;

The Raven is the obvious choice, extremely famous poem and there's a lot that you can delve into with the language, but if you want to go a little off the beaten path then just look into pretty much any Victorian poet as they had a fascination with death and horror

I wrote a poem years ago that was meant to be scary. Looking back, it's incredibly funny and terribly written! LOL. I've just searched my PC and found it - wow, it's so embarrassing! Here it is:

Darkness

Disorientated and dazed, I wake up in a room that's pure dark.
My heart is thumping against my chest like a man in the sea with a shark.
I can't remember anything; my memory has faded away.
"Why am I here?" I ask myself as I stare at the floor where I lay.
Slowly I rise and stand to my feet, wondering what to do.
If this is a joke by one of my friends I swear that I will sue!
A deafening silence fills the room, nothing can be heard;
No car, no plane, no bar, no train or a single bird.
The room is void of every sense, it pulsates an eerie feeling.
"How large is this room?" I think to myself, "Does it even have a ceiling?"

Reaching out my arm, I attempt to feel what's there:
Absolutely nothing, it's like a demon's lair.
What do I do when I don't have a clue?
Did someone place me here? More importantly, who?
I decide to walk onward in the hope of getting free.
Where am I heading? Only darkness I see.
So many questions race through my head.
I wish I could go home and lie safe in my bed.

As I march further on I begin to remember,
It was Tuesday the 6th on a frosty November.
Me and my friend, Sarah’s her name,
Were out with her dog (he's lovely and tame).
2:00am on that spine chilling night,
The towering trees concealed the moonlight.
Icy winds howled way up in the sky,
I suggested we left, I wished she'd comply.
Billy the dog unexpectedly growled,
This was subdued as the icy winds howled.
The hairs on my neck stood up on end.
Alone in the woods, just me and my friend?
All of a sudden we heard a crackle,
Followed by a sinister cackle.
The rustling came ever so near,
We were overcome with tremendous fear.
My pulse raced incredibly fast.
I took a breath, it was my last...

BANG! BANG! I fell to the floor,
Sarah screamed at the sight that she saw.
She turned on her heels and charged straight ahead,
Leaving my body gruesomely dead.
Another shot echoed all around,
With an incredible, ear-splitting sound.
Sarah dropped upon ground,
Not a word or a single sound...

Scary poems are difficult. Not many poems are written to "scare", but some can leave you feeling quite empty I guess?

You could try some of Thomas Hardy's poems, especially the later ones he wrote after his wife, Emma, had died. Not exactly scary, but they make me feel a bit "grey" if that makes sense
