I was only looking to buy a 4 GB stick for my one empty slot but then I realized that there was a sale on decent 8GB sticks (9-9-9-24 timing which is what I would have bought anyway) so I looked up my RAM bottleneck and apparently it's 32GB. I bought 4 8GB sticks so I'll have 32GB of ram.
At first I thought this was a ridiculous amount of RAM (and it is), but a lot of other iMac owners are doing this as well. I ultimately decided to do it because it was so cheap and because I can make ramdisks and use them for application caching.
Other than that, what are some other fun things to do with so much RAM or with a really large ramdisk? I wonder if I can run a virtual machine directly from it![]()
