Default PM to promise in/out EU referendum

David Cameron will promise an in/out referendum if the Conservatives win the next election when he makes his long-awaited speech on the EU later.

The Prime Minister wants to renegotiate the UK's relationship with the EU, before asking people to vote.

The British people can vote either to accept the result of the talks, or to leave the EU, Mr Cameron will say.

Labour's Ed Miliband said the speech showed the PM was "weak" and "driven by his party", not the national interest.

The referendum is thought likely to take place during the early part of the next parliament if the Conservatives win the election.

The speech had been scheduled for last Friday in the Netherlands, but was postponed because of the Algerian hostage crisis.

Well, this is great. We're going to get an in/out referendum for sure and all we have to do is re-elect him at the next general election so that he can do it. Doesn't sound familiar at all and, you know, we need a referendum now.

This is certainly no ploy by Mr Cameron to regain the conservative backbenchers and conservative supporters which he's bleeding away to UKIP. It's certainly not a last ditch attempt at trying to win the next general election in the face of a Labour landslide.

We should all trust Mr Cameron, and trust that after the election it won't be 'the wrong time' because he's not done something like that before.

I read somewhere the other day that Cameron's last ditch attempt at gaining votes would be to promise a referendum after re-election. I'm surprised that it's happened so quickly. I still won't be voting for him though.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. We've heard the same referendum promises before from the Conservatives with the Lisbon Treaty, Labour back in 1997 and with the Lisbon Treaty and the Liberal Democrats in the 2010. Lies upon lies.

    Vote UKIP.
