LucasArts Shutdown

Disney has laid off the staff of LucasArts and cancelled all current projects.

Staff were informed of the shutdown this morning, according to a reliable Kotaku source. Some 150 people were laid off, and both of the studio's current projects—Star Wars: First Assault and Star Wars 1313—were cancelled. Disney will still use the LucasArts name to license games, but the studio is no more.

Pretty sure they'll keep 1313 going, I remember seeing gameplay footage aaaages ago which would suggest it's more or less the finished article. It would be a complete waste of money if they don't release it.

Agreed, Disney aren't in the business of blindly throwing money away. If it's close to finish then they'll do it.

It would be a huge waste of funds and damaging to their reputation to actually cancel games that are in production, especially when LucasArts was/is a money maker. Disney have a few production and development companies who may be willing to complete the project(s), it would be a shame not to.

Apparently 1313 was based on Boba Fett and has been on hold since late last year

It's a shame, but hell this could be the start of something beautiful. Star Wars games haven't been great as of late, perhaps outsourcing games to other developers could result in better quality games, hell, maybe we'll finally get Battlefront 3!
