Pensioner killed in park by runaway police van rolling down a hill.

A PENSIONER was killed by a runaway police van — after officers parked it on a hill in a public park.
The OAP was reportedly eating ice cream when the Ford Transit rolled down the slope and ploughed into him in Pudsey, West Yorks.


It is thought an investigation will focus on whether the driver forgot to apply the handbrake.

The victim's two walking sticks could be seen lying on the ground beside the van as crash investigators photographed the scene today.




Two officers - one male and one female - had gone to Pudsey Park after reports of youths causing trouble shortly after 2pm on Saturday.
They stopped on a slope near the park entrance and got out to speak to the youths.


But within seconds the van rolled forwards and ran into the pensioner, who is thought to have been sitting on a wall in the sunshine.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Paramedics were called to the scene, but the man died of his injuries.


”The matter was immediately referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
