Rep Counter

By 'rep counter' I'm referring to the green number (well.. it has a green background) on the bottom right of a post when it has received +rep. And basically I don't see why there should be one but not the other?

So I know the argument in the past for having no -rep counter is that seeing a -X on a post in a red box will apparently make people more likely to -rep the post and therefore lead to pointless -repping.. but surely if that's the case then a +X on a post in a green box would make people more likely to +rep the post and therefore lead to pointless +repping? I just can't see how you can argue against the -X with the reason which should surely mean the +X shouldn't be there either.

And so I'm voting for both or none .

It was never for that reason. It was more against trying to avoid a "negative atmosphere" and doing everything possible to promote a positive atmosphere. Whether you believe that act to be the case is up for debate but it doesn't really bother me whether there's a -rep number there or not.

I guess the 'negative atmosphere' is a valid argument to an extent, but surely posts aren't -repped that often? It's not like there's going to be loads of -X in red boxes. I hardly see green ones (shame it's been said the rep system isn't going to be changed, but that is/was a separate thread) .

I agree, having -rep makes people look bad and I don't think it's fair. Rather than showing someone to have -, just let them stay on 0.

When you have both and say if you saw a post with 55 -reps you'd be tempted to add to it prob.

Mmm, just because I think if I see a post as a bad post, I don't want to -rep it and then influence someone else into -repping them too because they've seen that someone else has. I'd much prefer to encourage people to +rep someones post and promote a good atmosphere, yeah. So sort of similar to Mike.

I know @Chris; you've said rep isn't going to change, but surely if -rep creates a negative atmosphere and a -rep counter isn't going to be added to posts, then the ability to -rep should just be removed?
