I always think if you only have two smods then you're only down to one whenever the other one posts away (not sure how frequent this is these days) so it does make sense to have three smods so that the cover is easily there rather than messing around with acting roles etc Plus smods have access to posts reports whereas normal mods do not and its crucial that theyre dealt with in the speediest time possible so I can't see the harm in it really.

I guess it depends on forum activity though and the frequency of rulebreaks and stuff, in the past its varied a lot, we've been stretched to the brim with four smods and other times its been so quiet theres barely been need for two haha

The point of the role is to fill the gap while Nick is away. I can't take on Nicks role myself, so it seemed like a good idea to give Phil the chance. It's also a way for me to future proof the department should a super moderator resign.
