Doctor Who - Series 8 Thread.

Thought a new thread for the new series in 2014 Peters first series!


So far we know:
- First read through has happened in early december for Capaldis first episode.
- Series 8 starts filming January 6th
- Series 8 for autumn run so late august early september
- No mid-series break

Rumours:
- Plans of a easter special to introduce Capaldi
- Male companion to join (the teacher from The Day of the Doctor)
- Clara to leave at the end of series 8.

Easter special sounds interesting although I'm not really too sure.. I'm so glad there's no series break as this would be very bad for a new doctor. A full series will give Capaldi a chance to shine and brilliant I think he might be.

I've heard Moffat plans to change a lot like the changes made in series 5. Comparing it to the previous series, 5-7 all had a different feel, look, scope, sound etc. and with a new doctor a new look and feel will definatley help to make the show feel more fresh.

I've also heard that Gallifrey will possibly be found early on instead of dragging it on. I hope this is true. I do like some archs that spread out but after the long spreading silence arch I think it will be nice to get a much shorter one. The brilliant thing is with Gallifrey returning there's so many stories that can arise. Is the master still alive? Romana to? What happened to the time lord's planning to destroy reality in the end of time? and so on

I do hope Capaldi's doctor will use science and logic a lot more to rather than the power of love or remembering as a way to solve things. It would be nice to get to see the doctor's clever side fully once again. More alien planets is also always a win. A new doctor's theme that will follow on from I am the doctor is planned to (not the same apparently but will follow on from I am the doctor). I am the doctor is great and iconic but it's often overused.

A series break would be terrible in terms of introducing a new Doctor, I think Peter needs a good strong set of episodes week after week to establish himself, splitting in half and waiting half a year would be terrible.

I don't think we'll get a big change like the change from David to Matt. I think they'll be small changes such as a new Sonic Screwdriver but I don't think they'll go changing the TARDIS again or the titles as they changed for the second half of series 7.

I've heard Gallifrey is being planned for an early return as well. Someone posted a few days ago on a Doctor Who forum that the planned series 8 if Matt Smith was to stay was to bringing Gallifrey back, so it would;t over shadow the new Doctor before the next series. But obviously thats probably changed.

I hope Capaldis different! I know a few already judging him on his 40 seconds in the TARDIS but thats hardly his Doctor and is very generally doctorish things. If you look at Matt after Davids regeneration his rounded character was way different from when he acted in those first few minutes.

Well Capaldi will be the first doctor to not sound "English" as he will be using his Scottish Accent whilst playing the role.

Cant wait for Doctor Who to come back. just hope Capaldi will be just as good any other people who have played the Doctor

Actually Sylvester Mccoy used a Scottish accent often. Considering he's from scotland.

Exicted for this series. Autumn 2014 will be a major time for me though. Although the costume needs something like a cane.
