Default Power crazed Doctors lobby Government to ban cigarettes to anyone born after 2000

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...born-2000.html

Doctors call for total ban on sale of cigarettes to anyone born after 2000 in bid to cut smoking-related deaths

    - Experts call on the BMA to lobby Government for a total ban
    - The age limit for buying cigarettes would rise every year until smoking is completely eliminated
    - Doctors also criticise local councils' £1billion investment in tobacco funds
    - More than 100,000 Britons die every year from smoking-related diseases

Doctors have asked the powerful British Medical Association to lobby the Government for a ban on tobacco sales to people born after the year 2000.

Smoking kills more than 100,000 people a year in the UK by causing diseases such as lung cancer and emphesyma, according to the NHS.
I have to say that if they try this then as somebody who has never tried a cigarette on the principle of it, i'll be trying them.

We are increasingly living in a Police state and this is what happens the more you push for more and more state power against the things you do not like. How can any of you rabid anti-smoking zealots argue against state monitoring of the internet for example when you've created this runaway train of a powerful state that is prepared to meddle in every aspect of our lives? If it's good enough to be used against smokers, then the state WILL step into your lives sometime or other: whether it's random stops and searches based on no evidence because you have tanned skin, whether it's seizing or snooping on computer usage or whether it's restricting what you even eat or can buy in the supermarket. It's straight out of 1984.

You created this and now you'll face the consquences of ever less freedom. The sad thing is that I will too.

**** these control freak experts and **** the ******s in government. Butt out of my life and my choices.

    Thoughts?

That is going too far, fair enough making sure people don't start up, but you cannot force someone to quit. As much as I hate smoking and wished the people around me found the will power and want to quit, I would never force them.

    Diabolical government.

Well this is utterly stupid. Hope the government (for once) realise this is too far and don't go anywhere with this idea..

It should just be banned completely, in my opinion. They make too much money to actually do that, though... Or make drugs that are less harmful or roughly the same also legal.

I mean, some banned drugs are safer than cigarettes, so it doesn't make any sense to me other than their greed. So either some drugs should be unbanned or cigarettes should be banned.

I really don't understand what gives you the idea that you have the remit to interfere to such an extent in people's lives? It's just jaw-dropping.

I would never dream of meddling in the lives of others in such a way. Do you like burgers/fatty foods? Let's ban them too. For your own good.

I edited my post a little saying that either cigarettes should be banned or certain drugs which are safer should be unbanned.

I don't want to interfere with people's life, believe me. If they want to smoke, let them. I just don't understand why certain drugs are illegal, whereas other drugs that do more harm or roughly the same isn't. Or y'know, vice versa asking why they aren't legal.

How is it forcing anyone to quit other than the 14 year olds and under that are currently smoking? I must say, it's a better plan than just banning smoking altogether, and as much as I would love to ban smoking, I don't see it working.

It's a bit like guns in America, if you just ban them outright, it won't stop people because it's so widespread.

Was just about to say this, how in anyway does this force people to quit smoking?

Also @-:Undertaker:-; why would you smoke on principle? completely nonsensical.
