Hi, I don't know if this has ever been covered before - my searches couldn't find anything - but I wanted to have a discussion about how adults (anyone aged 18+) are seen within the Habbo community, especially after Habbo's history with the more unsavory characters of our species and the ensuing storm that followed (check out Wikipedia if you don't understand).
I'll preface by saying that, yes, I am what one would consider an adult. I won't disclose my age but I will say that I am not a teenager anymore nor am I a creepy old guy. Let me also preface that preface by saying that I did not join Habbo as an adult.
I first joined Habbo UK in early 2002 at the behest of a school friend. My Habbo was RemyZero. Feel free to look him up. I used Habbo heavily for a few years under varying personas (MST3k and Schoba, mostly). I spent a lot of time in the various public rooms, especially the Lido. I was also amongst the first users of Habbo US, which was exciting. I was a regular in many "police" rooms and help desks and was also an early Habbo Guide (I missed the eXpert program). I created fan sites, I made fun graphics, I wrote to the newsletter, and I entered competitions. However, some bad luck in the not-getting-phished department led to my Habbo getting bled dry of coins and furni. Not good times. I pretty much packed it in after that and didn't touch Habbo for a long time, other than to make sure my accounts were active or to see the progress of the technology. It's amazing how things have evolved, by the way.
Leading me to the point of this thread. I started Habbo as a teen - the intended customer, if you will. However, I'm now older. I'm a full-fledged adult. This isn't something I advertise on Habbo. In fact, I don't give my age at all (I'm nice about it). I'm back on Habbo and I enjoy the game and its atmosphere. I really enjoy being a Habbo Helper, answering calls for help and guiding along new players. I especially love seeing the creativity and ingenuity that's going into rooms these days. I don't go to "the clubs" or hang out in places I feel uncomfortable (typically where I can tell I can't relate), and I have to shoot down most friend requests.
Yes, I go to work to make money like an adult. Yes, I have my own home where I live with my wonderfully geeky girlfriend. That's kind of like an adult. My main hobbies are video games, Reddit, collecting all the cool stuff I always wanted as a kid, and just generally being a geek who never grew up. And I like visiting Habbo and interacting with the community.
How does the new Habbo generation feel about that?
