    Default Recent Alterations

Since my first Habbo alterations, which I posted here, I've been trying different things with my Habbo to give myself some experience and hopefully improve.

My most recent and favourite (because it's me with a cat, duh):

Which ones do you like/dislike? I'd appreciate any constructive criticism as I'm looking to improve and I'd also like to try new things so any suggestions will be appreciated, thank you

Most of these seem like basic features of replacement of old Habbo graphics. Can't really do much wrong with them, but I'd personally rather see something ****** and original than a copy and paste job and I honestly think you'd learn more from it. Also, you should probably make it clear in future which ones are edited from Habbo images otherwise some people will think you did the Leia and all that entirely from scratch.

On the last two which I think aren't as big copy and paste jobs, the curve on the rope seems quite jaggy and could do with being smoother and the cat seems a bit flat (though I'm not sure if that's your doing or not).

When I posted, I was going to say that for alot of them I have just been incorporating my Habbo into already made alterations, however I thought this was quite obvious (well, so I thought) because I've seen them around and also if you Google them they're just there, like I thought they were well known/used alterations? A lot of people wouldn't be able to replace Habbos in an alteration, and I never knew how to until I learnt it's simple rubbing out and using the pencil tool, which is why I wanted to get this basic skill down. It wasn't a simple copy and paste with some of these either, like the Leia, it was actually a little time consuming changing the colour of the hair because of the many different shades. I don't think anyone would think I've done all of these entirely from scratch, since I've made it clear I'm a beginner?

Using the pole from the original rope divider, I drew the rope myself as you can probably tell, but to make it smoother would I just bring the bottom a little higher and smooth it out from there? I struggled with this and kept rubbing it out because I just couldn't get it right

Yes the flat cat is my doing, I used the sitting cat I drew almost from scratch (using a ready drawn cat head and tail but drawing and shading/colouring the rest). There are no other alterations of a Habbo holding a cat around (unless I just haven't found it) so this was a big challenge for me and I did it myself. I will try and work on the flat cat.

Just so it's clear and you can all see what I have actually done to create the alterations:

    >

    >
I used the champagne bucket to create this as an ice bucket, for the ice bucket challenge

    >

using this, I made Ripieno in this graphic I made:

(I drew the skirt in to replace the shorts) and then using that, I made the one of me (I recoloured the suit)

    >

    >

    >

    >

    >
(I used the non animated version of the broom and animated my finished image)

    >
(I put two of the stages together and made them into the one, longer one underneath the decks)

    >

    >

    > > >
(Used the left cat to make the middle cat and used that cat for this alteration, using the Habbo holding a dog alt to see how to draw the arms and hands)

You're assuming everybody will have seen and/or Google the images and that everyone will tell you're a beginner. I realise you link your first post and from the date on that it will be obvious, but not everybody will click it. I'll admit I might have worded it a bit harshly, I sometimes forget where I began with crudely drawn alterations, copy & posting and recolours. I'm just suggesting drawing basic geometry and building on from that would be the way to go from now on.

With the rope you just need to change the dimensions of the lines. You jump from 1x3 (WxH) to 2x3 to 3x3 and then immediately to 15x3 or something like that. You need to create a bit more of a, for no better word "buffer" between the 3x3 and 15x3 otherwise it looks jagged and straight. If you make it go down further before switching to higher dimensions then 1x3 then you should be able to keep the rope at the same level down with ease.

For the flat cat, you'd want to use a similar idea to this (ignore that it's about dithering, just look at the one on the right):

    source (also very useful): http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/foru....asp?TID=11299

Basically, you just need to take into account it would be darker under the cat which you partially did, but only when the pixels touched the arm.

And just to be clear, the original post was no way an attack on you as I believe the person who +repped you (and maybe you) may have thought. Anyway hope that helps.

these kinda stuff are what I started off doing and are actually what got me into pixel art. it's something nice and easy to get you started and you should be able to do your own stuff if you keep practicing looking good!
