Your Words - Ends 6th March

Short story competition time! Although the Hogwarts event has ended after a good run, people still have the mindset and I think a J. K. Rowlingesque writer may be on the forum somewhere! For this competition write a short story based in the Harry Potter world. It may feature any characters from the book but must be at least 250 words long.

"Oi, Sev!"

He despised the surname that this idiot decided to use. But even then, the frail boy managed to look up from the book he was reading under the mishmash of grey and blue skies, his face uninterested as he found James Potter staring at him with his glasses perched unevenly on his nose. Beside James was his usual gang members which consisted of Peter, Sirius and Remus. Those gits.

Severus frowned. "What is it you want, Potter?"

Meanwhile, the crisp wind billowed through all of them. Unfortunately for Severus himself, this meant huddling into the scarf that his mother once knitted for him. Embarrassment tore through his mind as he knew that his adversaries were just right in front of him.

"Nothing, nothing." James pursed his mouth in a self-satisfied smirk. He paused for a second, glancing to Peter who was by his side (daydreaming, as per usual) as a confirmation to carry on with his nonsense. "I was just going to ask you something."

Severus scanned the surroundings carefully as a response, making sure that there wasn't any spare wands or potions that loitered near the Marauder boys. After all, interrupting Severus's afternoon readings at the Middle Courtyard was usual, alongside the silly incantations and pranks that came along with it. So today was no different.

"Yeah, what is it?" Severus reinstated coldly.

James snickered before returning to his usual smug-like expression that was glued to his face. "Well today I found something that is yours. And considering that I am a very nice person, I am more than willing to give this back to you."

Severus's face hardened. "What do you have?"

"A letter."

"What the bloody hell are you talking about?"

Sirius stepped in front of James, a broad grin forming on his cracked lips. In his left hand laid a crumpled piece of paper. "Your letter to Lily, obviously."

In an instant, Severus rummaged through his mind for memories wherein he wrote the letter. Panic-stricken, he realised that it was the exact same paper that he wrote just a month ago. The one with the Dear Lily, I just want to say... and all that.

"No, it's not mine!" He lied.

"Really? Cos' from the last time I heard, your name is definitely Sev. And it shows at the bottom of the letter." Sirius uttered.

"But you know, I can always give it to Lily if you want. Spreading the love, Marauder-style. How's that for a cupid?" James continued.

Silence emerged between Severus and the gang. He didn't know what to say or do. He didn't want Lily to know. Was his love for her that obvious? Was he that stupid enough to write a bloody letter? And how the hell did this twit (out of everyone in Hogwarts, mind you!) grab a hold of this piece of paper?

One thing he definitely knew for sure though, was the fact that he was screwed.

lol i wrote this story in 5 minutes and i didn't really have a good headcanon to start off with (mainly bc i've been having a bad day so)
