What aristocratic/stately houses have you visited?

Across Great Britain we've lost so many aristocratic/stately homes over the last century thanks to the morons in government taxing the aristrocrats to the hilt so they couldn't afford the upkeep anymore, and as a result many were destroyed in the 1960s with hundreds of years of history in one building all gone. Thankfully though a lot of furniture from many was saved, although that still doesn't bring back the lovely buildings.

But have you ever visited a big house? They're pretty popular tourist attractions, and many that are unoccupied are owned by English Heritage with the others that are still occupied often hosting functions/opening days to visitors in order to raise funds for their upkeep.

Speke Hall, the home of many mid-aristocratic families.




Alton Towers, former seat of the Earls of Shrewsbury



Croxteth Hall, former seat of the (now extinct) Earls of Sefton

When I can drive and have more freedom to do what I want easily, I want to visit many more across the country especially Highgrove House which is a house of Prince Charles: known for the amazing gardens he's planted there which is another interest of mine. There's so many though across the country and some of you may have noticed the Alton Towers one that it's the one from the theme park? It was a victim of the 1950s/60s madness after the Earls had left it and the entire inside was ripped out which is why its now a sad hollow shell of its former self. Hopefully one day the theme park restore it, as they've been doing parts gradually.

You though? Have you visited any historic stately homes?

I've never been to Britain so none I'm not a massive fan of history tbh so this doesn't exactly appeal to me, each to their own though!
