Do you think consumerism has "gone too far"?

I know plenty of people endlessly rant about Valentine's Day and say that "it's just made up by companies [it's not] to make you buy more ****" essentially, yet these people feel no objection towards buying gifts towards mother's day and father's day...?

I, at times, think it's a bit ridiculous - ex. Christmas promotions start coming out in October, sometimes September and Easter about 2 months beforehand (where I live). Everything just feels so out of sync when stores are advertising for celebrations that aren't for another two months which is irritating. But apart from that I don't really have a problem with valentines day etc. being promoted.

So yeah, do you think consumerism has gone too far or don't you mind the materialism ?

i think stores take it too far, but i'm all for the events. i'm not the most impulsive person but i do enjoy giving gifts and doing things for others so when something like mothers day comes along i'm more than happy to dedicate my day to her.

The Chinese save up whilst we spend our credit cards. There's only one outcome here.

Shops start selling stuff for the next holiday too early now. I love buying people gifts but I would never find them in the CHRISTMAS!!! aisle in Sainsbury's or something. I prefer to walk round the shops in town and find a gift that someone would genuinely like. That's what I enjoy so much about gift giving.

Really though, consumerism hasn't gone too far. If people are buying it, of course the shops are going to be selling.

If consumers are buying early then it's only logical to sell it early.
