Default Heathrow Airport climate change protest delays flights

Planes at Heathrow Airport have been disrupted after protesters cut through a fence and got on to a runway.

Direct action group Plane Stupid said 13 demonstrators opposed to the airport's expansion plans got on to the northern runway at 03:30 BST.

Six protesters have been arrested on suspicion of Aviation Act offences, police said

The runway was closed for nearly three hours and 13 flights were cancelled.

The airport apologised for the disruption caused and advised passengers to check with their airlines before they travel.

What are your thoughts on this? Fantastic idea or stupid? In my opinion it's stupid because the delays they are causing for the planes are in the air would go into holding pattens which means they are going to be dumping more fuel rather than landing at Heathrow but that's my view anyway.

Rather a stupid idea. They are probably locals. Another runway would provide jobs, more money into the UK, more tourists.

What came first, Heathrow or the houses around it? To be fair, you could just not live next to a runway. The only reason not to have an extra runway is to protect any areas of interest and I don't recall any major ones nearby.

On a slightly different note. Heathrow is poorly placed and the motorways and roads around it are dreadful. It shouldn't have been placed there or the roads should have been better placed. The infrastructure around it is just lousy. I prefer flying from Gatwick.

Well that raises serious security concerns for Heathrow then.. lucky they were only protesters. Just unnecessary disruption in my opinion, they could've done something else to get their message across. They got a lot of attention and a bit of coverage on the media though so for them it would've been successful.
