Figured I would just create a thread on this to gauge opinion, especially in light of the fact that not only has Jeremy Hunt made some false statements, but also the fact the contract is set to be imposed upon them anyway despite all the strikes and lack of majority support from about any group.

So what's everyone's views on it all?

I do not have an opinion really on it as I do not know near enough on it.

Basically, the government are imposing a new contract which would/could mean longer working hours for junior doctors with no extra pay, to make a "7 day NHS" which they claim (or at least, imply) would lower the risk of deaths at the weekend as there is a small increase when comparing deaths at the weekend to weekdays. The BMA/junior doctors, on the other hand, claim this will spread them out too thinly and make them too tired, ultimately endangering patients lives.

Oh I missed this thread. I think it's all ridiculous and that junior doctors are absolutely right to be leaving the NHS as they are. I know a number of junior doctors (I'm so cultured (h)) and they're all seriously considering going abroad or private and with damn good reason. We do not have the funds or the staff to be able to turn the NHS into a 7 day service - it would be exactly the same as making schools 7 day without increasing funding or hiring any more teachers except worse because teachers aren't dealing with life or death situations as part of their job.
