More than half of Muslims in Britain think homosexuality should be illegal, poll finds

The results of a poll for Channel 4 by market research firm ICM will feature in a documentary called What British Muslims Really Think, presented by Trevor Phillips - former Equality and Human Rights Commission chairman.

The survey was carried out to try and understand what British Muslims - not their representatives - think, and to discover why some young Muslims are being drawn to violence.

It also found that only 34% of British Muslims would tell the police if they thought someone they knew was getting involved with supporters of terrorism in Syria.

Of the 1,000 Muslim Britons surveyed:

    - 52% think that homosexuality should be illegal in Britain
    - 47% said it is unacceptable for a gay or lesbian person to teach in school
    - 23% would support there being areas of Britain in which Sharia law replaces British law
    - 4% sympathise with people who take part in suicide bombing to fight injustice
    - 39% believe that "wives should always obey their husbands"
    - 86% feel a strong sense of belonging to Britain
    - 94% feel they are able to freely practise their religion in the UK

    Trevor Phillips

"Many of the results will be troubling to Muslims and non-Muslims alike - and the analysis of the age profile shows us that the social attitudes revealed are unlikely to change quickly."

The integration of Britain's Muslims will probably be the hardest task we've ever faced.

It will require the abandonment of the milk-and-water multiculturalism still so beloved of many, and the adoption of a far more muscular approach to integration." – TREVOR PHILLIPS, FORMER EQUALITY AND HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION CHAIRMAN
ICM used face-to-face, in-home research to question a representative sample of 1,000 Muslims across Great Britain.
I'd also add to this it is worth bearing in mind the 'shy' factor in polling where people will refrain from giving what they really think when asked by a pollster for fear of being judged. With that common variant in mind, the figures here are quite terrifying. I'm glad ICM have done more research and polling into this area as people are uncomfortable facing the truth on social attitudes. But the evidence is clear not just from this survey but from numerous surveys done by the likes of Pew Research on global Islamic attitudes and they're shocking.

What is possibly the most curious, absurd and suicidal alliance in history is between the left and Islam. Islam even "moderate" western Islam (see above on just how moderate it is compared to the rest of the population) is 100 per cent opposed to the left's crusades of social justice, gay rights, feminism, animal rights and so on. How left wing politicians can repeat the outright lie that Islam is just the same as any other religion and that every religion has problems on the scale of Islam is an insult to anyone with a fully functioning brain.

But despite this and numerous other surveys, we'll no doubt have the same faces below argue against integration and for multiculturalism.

Christians in the US polled roughly the same numbers. It's only recently that homosexuality has been something that's considered acceptable in the West. It's no surprise that those from a conservative religion would disagree with it, and no, i'm not excusing it before you start twisting my words, i'm merely pointing out that this isn't a problem which is exclusive to Islam.

and this poll shows that it was only in 2004 that a majority of us citizens thought homosexuality should be legal

I largely agree with this. It means nothing when you have nothing to compare it to. Though, in that last poll it's a bit "dodgy" to say it was only in 2004 that a majority thought it should be legal, as there have been points when a majority thought it should be legal before 2004. It's more that 2004 was the last time a majority thought it shouldn't be legal.

What's any of this got to do with violence? It's a bunch supposedly random people saying that they think certain acts should be illegal, not in any way saying we should all go out and smash the shit out of gay people. The part about thinking it's unacceptable for homosexuals to teach in schools is far more shocking tbh, although not surprisingly it's the older generations that are far more likely to respond in that way (page 91). Overall nothing new really

No-one seems to be reporting on the 78% who stated they want to integrate with the rest of society and 1% who said they wanted separate Islamic areas not shocking enough news I guess. Also having found the actual data, over half of the respondents were first generation immigrants having been raised elsewhere, which I'm pretty sure is not representative of half the country's Muslim population, so take some of these numbers with a hefty pinch of salt

Let's be honest religion is just a stupid system which should be left in the past, now that we have an actual reasonable education there is literally no need to keep all of these outdated believes.
